New to Lorca?

If you aren't fluent in Spanish, a great place to start is a bilingual collection of his poems.  My favorite is  The Collected Poems: A Bilingual Edition (Revised), edited by Christopher Maurer, followed by the The Selected Poems of Federico Garcia Lorca by WS Merwin. The surreal Poet in New York is on Kindle in a bilingual version. Poet in New York: A Bilingual Edition  The plays are wonderful, but I'm currently in negotiations to publish my own translations, and so won't recommend any at this time.  You'll just have to wait!

Should you wish to buy any recommended books or other Amazon items, if you go to Amazon directly from this site I'll get a tiny commission.  This is a good option if you don't have a decent independent bookstore nearby.

Ana Belén y Manzanita - 'Romance sonámbulo'

This is my favorite version of Manzanita's flamenco version of 'Romance sonámbulo' or "The Sleepwalking Ballad" by the immortal Federico.

Welcome

Federico García Lorca was one of the great writers of the 20th. Century.  Poet, playwright, artist, composer, director, popular public speaker--Lorca did it all.  Immensely popular during his lifetime, he was assassinated by Fascists at the start of the Spanish Civil War, after which his works were banned and censored.  Now a new generation discovers the treasure trove he left us.  To learn about his fascinating life, visit Lorca's Wikipedia page.  The most exhaustive, definitive biography of Lorca is Ian Gibson's Federico Garcia Lorca: A Life.  Leslie Stainton's Lorca: A Dream of Life

This blog will contain book, theater, film and music reviews and information about the poet and his times.
